A New Music Ecosystem

Future Models for Music Creation, Distribution, Marketing and Selling; organised by Music Center The Netherlands

The music industry is changing. Artists and developers everywhere are working on new ways of connecting fans and bands and developing new businesses along the way. In this PICNIC Special, the future of the music industry will be presented by keynote speaker and Media Futurist Gerd Leonhard, followed by four exciting case studies from start-ups and artists. Hosted by the Music Center the Netherlands, the afternoon will be moderated by the most passionate Dutch new media & music lover, Erwin Blom.

Erwin Blom was until recently head of Digital Department VPRO (progressive and innovatie Dutch public broadcast company). Nowadays Erwin is co-initiator of social media hub www.thecrowds.nl.

Keynote: Gerd Leonard, Media Futurist
The Wall Street Journal calls Gerd 'one of the leading media futurists in the world'. He is the Co-Author of the influential book ‘The Future of Music’ (2005, Berklee Press), as well as the author of ‘Music2.0’ (published in January 2008) and the forthcoming "The End of Control - The Future of Media” (end of 2008).
Gerd’s work focuses on the Future of Media, Content, Technology, Business, Communications and Culture, and he is considered a leading expert on topics such as Web/Media 2.0, social networking and social media, cultural changes due to disruption by new technologies, copyright vs. technology issues, online content commerce models, media convergence, mobile entertainment, entrepreneurship, the future of advertising and branding, future planning, digital content strategies and next-generation business models.
Gerd's keynotes, speeches, and think-tanks are renowned for his hard-hitting and provocative yet inspiring and motivational style. With over 50 engagements in 15 countries during the past two years Gerd has addressed global audiences in the sectors of recorded music & music publishing, radio, TV, film/video and broadcasting, online gaming and virtual worlds, telecom & wireless, and advertising and branding.Presentations:

Purpose of cloudspeakers.com is tob ring musicfans and musicindustry together by creating order in the current supply of reviews, audio and video. Former national Broadcast Conglomerate Veronica recently invested in the company.

Tribe Of Noise
Last year's artists like Moby, Nine Inch Nails and Radio Head made the first moves towards an alternative form of music distribution. But Tribe of Noise takes it one step further. Tribe of Noise is a music community that connects artists, fans and professionals. The music is uploaded by independent artists under a Creative Commons 3.0 by-share alike license. At Tribe of Noise, all music may be freely and lawfully shared even for commercial purposes!
